The Nuts and Bolts of Trade Show Booth Design

One of the most important considerations when attending a trade show is your trade show booth design. A well-designed trade show display will draw people to your company, which means more potential for conversion to sales. We can assist with the selection of a portable or modular booth, or create a custom booth that reflects you and your brand. We also offer booth rentals for more flexibility and freedom. The four main styles of trade show booth design are outlined below serve as a general guide. Make sure to check the rules and regulations of each trade show you attend, as sizes vary for different locations.

Standard / Linear Trade Show Booth

This type of trade show booth shares a back wall with another booth. It shares borders with other booths on one or two sides. The maximum height usually allowed is 8’. The 8’ height must end 5’ from the front aisle, and the front side walls must not exceed 4’. If you have a corner trade show display, your trade show booth will be exposed to the aisle on both sides. Hanging trade show banners or signs are usually not allowed.

Perimeter Wall Trade Show Booth

This type of booth will be on the perimeter wall of the trade show floor. The maximum height for this trade show booth is 12’. The 12’ height must end 5’ from the front aisle, and the front side walls must not exceed 4’. Hanging trade show banners or signs are usually not allowed.

Peninsula Trade Show Booth

The Peninsula trade show booth is larger than 20’ x 20’, shares a back wall with another trade show display, and has aisles on three sides. The Peninsula trade show booth can be one of two styles – one will share a back wall with a Linear booth, and the other will share a back wall with another Peninsula booth. This is known as a “Split Island Trade Show Booth.” The exterior of the back wall must not have any company graphics, logos or identifying objects. It must be plain.

If the Peninsula trade show booth shares a back with a Linear booth, the back wall typically cannot be more than 4’ high for a distance of 5’ from the side aisles, and it may be 20’ high in the center of the back wall. If it shares a back wall with another Peninsula booth, the walls may be a maximum of 20’ on all sides, including the shared back wall. Hanging trade show banners or signs are usually allowed.

Island Trade Show Booth

The island trade show booth is any trade show display that is 20’x 20’ or larger and has aisles on all four sides. Regulations vary, but a standard example is a maximum height of 30’ in all areas of the trade show booth in North and Central Halls 3-5. A maximum of 20’ on all sides of your trade show booth for Central halls 1-2. A maximum height of 22’ on all sides of your booth for South Halls. You may have as many solid walls as you want. Make sure to check the regulations. Hanging trade show banners or signs are usually allowed.
