Hybrid In-Line Exhibit Case Study: Sunz Insurance

We often meet with clients who have a trade show exhibit that they have outgrown. This was exactly the case with Sunz Insurance – they needed a flexible booth that could be used both 10×10’ and 10×20’ size spaces, a fresh look, and lots of space for interchangeable graphics. We immediately thought a hybrid in-line exhibit was the solution to their problem. They wanted to debut the new booth at the FAIA show in Orlando in June 2016, and then they will also be using the new booth at NAPEO in Austin in September 2016.

The rendering shows the booth with blank walls as a template for versatility.

Exhibit Layout

One of the main challenges we faced was designing a booth that would allow Sunz Insurance to easily change out graphics to focus on their different brand specialties, all within a constrained budget. We also needed to keep the booth simple enough that the show services costs didn’t skyrocket. The client wanted to remain within their previous show services budget, so complicated, lengthy installation was not an option. The hybrid in-line exhibit was the perfect choice to keep installation simple, allow a lot of wall space for graphics, and be flexible enough to fit into both space dimensions. For easy previewing, we created a rendering as an all white model so we could interchange the different graphics to test them on the layout.

Why Hybrid In-Line Exhibit?

The rental furniture provided the finishing touch for the booth. Sunz Insurance decided to rent furniture from our inventory because they wanted to test out the performance and attendee response. This is the beauty of the hybrid option – it allows our clients to test-drive different elements before committing to permanent pieces. The rental option also gives variety to booths on a budget– clients can have their own permanent foundational graphics and structural pieces, and with rentals they have access to a multitude of other pieces that they can mix and match to spice things up. For Sunz Insurance this was a cost effective solution and kept their trade show exhibit cost below the national average.

The hybrid in-line exhibit was the perfect flexible solution for Sunz Insurance.

Production Display for Clare Controls Case Study

Clare Controls is a personalized home automation company that offers some pretty exciting technology. Take one look at their sleek website and you know you’re working with a cutting edge tech firm. Technology on this level can be a bit difficult to visualize, so Clare Controls needed us to help create a production display that would streamline their sales process, but more importantly, allow their customers to experience and understand the value of this technology that they have the option to purchase.

production display clare homes

The production display looking sharp, sleek, and simple to understand.

As Clare Controls described to us, the process for selling their technology involves multiple levels of communication with different team members, all about a product that the customer could not experience firsthand. This was an obstacle for the sales reps as well as the consumers. If the consumer decides not to purchase the tech because of lack of understanding, they could be missing out on a beneficial technology that could improve their lives, simply because communication was restricted. Creating the production display opened communication by allowing interactivity to be the main form of sharing information.

production display fabrication

One of the technology package options, with interactive, functioning assets.

This was an exciting project for both the client and us, and as usual, we took the time to fully understand the product, the workflow, and the goals. We feel that we cannot create the best displays if we don’t have a complete picture. One of the challenges in this particular project was compressing a lot of important technical information into simple to consume silos or options that could be displayed side by side for comparison, overview, and interaction. With user interfacing technology like this, it is important to perform testing to make sure the user experience is optimal, so we built some test units. We used feedback from these units to inform our final adjustments, ensuring that our solution was comprehensive yet straightforward.

The end product is pretty impressive. We love that this seemingly simple presentation is full of complexity behind the scenes. Take one look at the reverse side of the production display and you realize how complicated it is. However, looking at the front, you see a very sleek, easy-to-understand, beautiful interactive display that allows you to process and comprehend the technology within moments.

Trade Show Design Communication: Zibiz Case Study

One of ADM Two’s greatest strengths is trade show design communication. This is demonstrated exceptionally well in the trade show booth we designed for Zibiz, a data management company located in New York state. ADM Two account executive Tony Ricci never met the client in person – all communication was completed via phone.

This was to be Zibiz’s first professional trade show system, so they wanted to enter the scene with a bang. Since Zibiz is relatively new to trade show booth fabrication, we needed to communicate a good bit of information about trade show graphic design, materials, and hardware. This can be a challenge to do over the phone, but we are agile with our communication and make sure to understand our clients’ needs and questions thoroughly, no matter what the format. This way we can meet them at their level. Even our own questions are truly geared towards understanding in great detail the client’s goals and needs. In this case, we did this so well that Zibiz chose us over our competitors for exactly that reason – great communication.

We wanted to give Zibiz an eye-catching backdrop for their display, so we went through a few rounds of revisions to get the graphic piece to where we wanted it. Sometimes text heavy designs are not the best fit for trade show displays – we conveyed this to the client and they eventually saw eye to eye with us because our design process is so thorough. We showed them a text heavy mock-up and explained the reasons this style does not work.

trade show booth design communication 2

This is the text heavy original mock up we showed them, so they could compare to the sleek, sophisticated final design.

The final rendering uses powerful imagery, modern graphics, and color to draw attention.

All design work was developed from Zibiz’s sell sheets. We were able to envision the final design because of our communication – we understood the goal and this enabled us to use minimal information to create something that represented the client.

Zibiz wanted to present their Optospan fiber optic cables to potential clients in a way that showed the uniqueness of their particular product. In order to do this, we chose a modular display with a sleek, modern look and adjustable shelving and counters for flexibility. That eye-catching backdrop was created using a simple stock photo, but our designer manipulated the photo to incorporate Zibiz’s colors, with one strawberry in an unusual color (blue) to symbolize the uniqueness of Optospan. The photo was then blown up and used with minimal text in a way that looks sleek, modern, and very eye-catching. All in all the design was a success. The client reported after the show that the booth exceeded their expectations and the show was a success. That is a winning collaboration for all! Check out Zibiz’s products at www.zibiz.com.

Hybrid Trade Show Booth Case Study: Ocean Optics

Ocean Optics’ hybrid trade show booth turned out to be the perfect vehicle for showcasing their brand – it was an exceptional booth for an exceptional client. One of the best qualities that Ocean Optics possesses as a company is their willingness to go the extra mile to demonstrate their products. They don’t just throw a demo video on a screen – they actually demo products physically, right before your very eyes on the trade show floor. The hybrid trade show booth had to be able to support these live demos without looking too busy or confusing. Additionally, the Ocean Optics team needed one booth to fit two booth spaces, a 30×30 at Photonics and a 20×30 at PITTCON. Because of the timeline of these shows being so close together, the entire booth had to be shipped directly from one show to the next. We knew from the start that this was going to be a challenge for all!

Hybrid Trade Show Booth Standing Out in a Sea of Booths

Ocean Optics’ demos are a unique feature of their booth, so we wanted those to stand out to trade show attendees. We decided to go with corner custom towers with counters on the outer walls of each tower to showcase the demos. Each counter was carefully designed to fit the needs of the demo it supported. The towers also had headers with fabric graphics for further visibility and focus for each product demo area. Monitors were placed on top of the fabric graphics for even more interest. The live demos were a hit. It’s rare to see demos of this complexity at a trade show, so they were an immediate differentiator. Ocean Optics created an educational environment that was almost hands on in nature – this interactivity of the booth served almost as a respite from the sea of trade show booths.

These corner towers made an impression!

Getting Down to Business

The interactivity of the demos is a great feature, but we still needed to create an area to showcase collateral and encourage discussion with prospective clients and the Ocean Optics staff. We chose to use an elegant curving reception counter in the center of the booth, which also served as a general management station and storage area. A custom lit holder offered literature for visitors and staff.

Overall the booth was pretty spectacular. The client and other attendees certainly thought so.

“Yes, I survived (I think) and everything was wonderful – thank you and your team for the amazing booth it was definitely the best at both shows. I had other exhibitors say they were going to steal ideas and offer me a job!” said Keith Mingolello, Global Tradeshow and Events Manager at Ocean Optics.

Creating a booth as successful as this starts with our team getting to know every detail about our clients’ business and products. Then we want to know every detail about the show(s) they are attending, their goals, their budget, and their timeline. We leave no stone unturned, because we want to design the best solution to each multi-faceted problem. Over time we have learned that trade show booths are not just trade show booths, they are solutions, they are vehicles, and they are miniature representations of entire businesses. This is not to be taken lightly, so we cover every base in order to create something that provides maximum effectiveness.

Fascinating product demos made this booth stand out.

ADM Two Portable Trade Show Booth Case Study: Prime Medical at APIC

Prime Medical is a startup firm specializing in revolutionary fabrics made specifically for the healthcare industry. These fabrics have a technology that allows them to continuously kill germs; they are used for hospital curtains, linens, and scrubs. The technology is fascinating and they wanted to showcase some of their products and the incredible science behind the fabric at the APIC 2016 Show in Charlotte, NC.

Prime Medical wanted to avoid the “mom and pop shop at their first trade show booth” look by having a branded, custom feel. The APIC show is full of powerhouse healthcare companies with incredible trade show booths, so they needed to be able to stand out amongst some really great designs. At the same time, the booth needed to be simple to assemble and portable so the trade show staff could carry the entire booth in their vehicles and set it up themselves. And finally, they wanted to be able to expand on the booth in the future, as they grow and attend more trade shows. The challenge was thus multi-fold: how do we display multiple products and show a video in a small 10×10 portable trade show booth, still have room for people, and make sure it’s light enough and simple enough for the staff to assemble?

Small Portable Trade Show Booth, Large Impact

We are no stranger to fitting big ideas into small spaces, so we immediately thought of a light-weight metal extrusion system that utilized fabric graphics. These systems are easy to setup and super portable, while still providing beautiful color and imagery to the booth. The added bonus is that they are perfect for expansion, so the Prime Medical team could use the pieces for years to come in larger formats. The fabric graphics are light as a feather, but still look beautiful.

portable trade show booth

Portable trade show booths can look custom with the right touches.

Turns out we were right on the money with our recommendations.

Shannon Bennett of ADM Two understood exactly what I wanted to convey and gave me booth options within our budget that would present the right image and also allow us to grow from 10×10 to 10×20 booth spaces and beyond. Shannon’s concepts and direction were right on the mark. She gave me her seasoned advice on simplifying our graphics to create a visual focal point – and not overwhelm our look with logos or images on every available surface,” said Wendy Brady, Vice President of Marketing at Prime Medical.

Graphics and Layout

As the client pointed out, we understand trade show graphics really well, and oftentimes less is more. We used a large color photo to capture attention and provide a focal point for the booth. Major benefits and features of the products were highlighted in large, easy to read graphics throughout the booth, with messaging at every level. The full product line was listed on the side of the booth, closest to the aisle for maximum foot traffic exposure. A rack was placed at the side of the booth to display products while at the same time keeping the booth open and flowing.

A television screen was placed at a height that would allow it to be visible from a distance, and an iPad station was placed strategically to draw traffic further into the booth. A podium placed in the center created a path for traffic flow and a place for staff and visitors to write and share collateral.

Achieving the Custom Look

Creating multiple levels with the counters, combined with the large, colorful graphics, and the television all added to the custom look of this portable trade show booth. We also created a medallion shaped sign that showcased the logo nicely, while adding yet another level of texture to the booth. The recessed lighting above the photograph highlighted the image nicely and added a warm, soft feel to the cool blue and white graphics of the booth interior. The client also chose wood look floor tiles for an added customization and warm look. These are the elements that create a custom feel – simple, yet very intentional pieces are the hallmark of a custom booth done right.

How to Setup

The last leg of the project was teaching the Prime Medical staff how to assemble their custom portable booth. We knew we had to demonstrate the setup, but we wanted to make sure the staff had something to visually reference as they were setting up. We decided to create a time lapse video on the day of our demonstration, so they could refer to that at any point during their own assembly at APIC. Turns out it was a great way to convey setup instructions.

Prime Medical’s mission is not just to sell products – their goal is to do good in the world by making healthcare environments safer. In their products, partnerships and people, they consistently strive to improve, innovate and act with integrity. Museum Case Construction: Ringling Museum of Art Center for Asian Art

We were recently awarded a contract for museum case construction for the Ringling Museum of Art’s new Center for Asian Art. This is an honor, as the Ringling Museum of Art contains one of the preeminent art and cultural collections in the United States. The buildings, the grounds, the Ca ‘dZan Mansion – the Ringling Museum of Art is truly one of the treasures of the state of Florida.

Museum Case Construction

The museum case construction work came off without a hitch. We constructed the cases in the ADM Two warehouse in Tampa and shipped them down to the Ringling Museum for assembly. This was a fairly straightforward job, so in this story we’d like to focus on the museum itself, its rich history, and what makes it so special.

Museum case construction took place at the ADM Two warehouse in Tampa.

The Beginning

John Ringling and his brothers were the founders of “The Greatest Show on Earth,” the Ringling Circus. The success of the circus catapulted John and his wife Mable into a position of wealth and influence. They traveled the world in search of acts for the circus, collecting art and appreciating the architecture they encountered along the way. In 1911, they bought the waterfront property that now serves as the campus of the Ringling Museum of Art and some years later they decided to build a home on the property. Mable, who had a fascination with the Venetian Gothic style of the palazzo in Venice, had kept postcards, photos, and made sketches of the lavish architectural style. She supervised the construction of what is now known as the Ca ‘dZan Mansion. It is five stories tall, 36,000 square feet, has 41 rooms and 15 bathrooms. It is a stunning sight to behold.

Building the Collection

As John Ringling acquired more and more art, he became thoroughly passionate about collecting. His curiosity and passion led him to begin purchasing and reading art books – so many that his collection now forms the foundation of the Ringling Art Library. Soon after construction of the Ca’ d’Zan was complete, John built a 21-gallery museum based on the Florentine Uffizi Gallery to house his collection of paintings, sculptures and other art objects. The avid collector did not open the museum to the public until 1931, two years after Mable’s death. He hoped it would “promote education and art appreciation, especially among our young people.” Upon his death, the estate was left to the people of Florida.

Present Day

The state eventually passed on governance of the Museum of Florida State University. The surrounding community rallied to help restore the museum to its original beauty; community support of the museum has proven to be one of its greatest assets to this day. The museum has continued to grow and expand over the years, and the recent addition of the Center for Asian Art is testament to the museum’s success. Its continued efforts to provide visitors with a comprehensive arts and culture experience will surely have a lasting impact on people from all over the world. Golisano Children’s Museum Fabrication ADM Two Case Study – Trolley Exhibit

Children’s museum fabrication projects are exciting for us because we are given the opportunity to take a trip back in time to our own childhood and remember what it was like to see things with fresh, young eyes and a ready mind. Vibrant colors, interesting shapes, and practically surreal imagery are all facets of children’s museums that we love, and which make these projects so interesting and fun. In collaboration with MAM Exhibits, we worked to design and fabricate a new Trolley Exhibit for the Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples.

Golisano Children's Museum fabrication.

Golisano Children’s Museum fabrication finished product.

The trolley train table at the Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples hadn’t been updated in years, and when they received a generous donation for just that purpose, they were excited to get started on the project. The goal of the redesign was to increase interactivity, play space, and learning opportunities. We created two distinct play spaces and many options for kids to build and experiment with their engineering abilities. The graphics are stunning – vibrant and colorful with a modern geometric twist that is sure to be pleasing for years to come. We even added a train cutout for the drawer pull, shown below. This is what we love about children’s museum fabrication!

Children’s Museum Fabrication

You can see that we started the fabrication in the ADM Two warehouse. Our expert carpenters created the elegant, yet large curved piece that serves as the main play area, and then assembled the structure to make sure that the pieces fit together perfectly. Next, the pieces received graphic treatment, and then we shipped everything to the Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples for final construction. This children’s museum fabrication was especially rewarding because after all was said and done, we got to see photos of the happy, focused faces of children using their imaginations to build things, and that is exactly what we were like when we were kids.

Museum Exhibit Update: Historic Spanish Point Case Study

A museum exhibit update is usually necessary because technology is constantly changing and in many cases a better way of presenting information arises. The learning styles and interests of the museum audience is also changing as generations of digital natives come of age. In order to capture these audiences who are raised in electronics, museums must stay abreast of the current trends in the industry. This is one of the reasons that the Windows of the Past Exhibit at Historic Spanish Point needed a refresh, and they chose ADM Two for the job.

Before museum exhibit update – drab, uninteresting lighting and materials.

Before the update – audio visual mess in the corner, outdated graphics with unflattering lighting.

This museum exhibit update included a new audio/visual system for a cleaner, more modern setup. We also noticed that many design and lighting elements needed updating. The existing carpet flooring was unflattering and needed refreshed – we added beautiful medium-colored, wide-paneled wood flooring for a classic, natural feel. New wood benches to match the museum cases that we built added some much needed seating to the exhibit. Finally, the new museum cases brightened up the exhibit. To add to the brightness, we switched to LED lighting, which created warm yet subtle glow to the overall exhibit. Spot lighting highlighted the individual panels, and the final touch was designing new graphics to go along with the new museum cases. The whole museum exhibit update took off without a hitch, and we had the opportunity to learn about a nearby Florida landmark.

Historic Spanish Point – Prehistory

Historic Spanish Point is a fascinating place. Located on the Gulf Coast in Osprey, Florida, it is one of the largest intact actively preserved archaeological sites of the prehistoric period on the Gulf Coast. Its archaeological record encompasses approximately 5,000 years of Florida prehistory. During this period, people living in this area gradually made the transition from nomadic hunters to settled subsistent societies. The abundant resources provided by the coastal habitat fostered this change, and use of tools further established both permanent and seasonal settlements in the area.

The site may be one of the oldest and largest ceremonial shell ring middens in the southeastern United States. A midden is an archaeological term for a dump for domestic waste that contains products relating to day-to-day human life. They may contain animal bone, shell, botanical materials, potsherds, debitage (left over pieces from making stone flake points) and other artifacts.

The Historic Spanish Point exhibit is full of truly compelling information and artifacts, and should be on any visitors’ list to Florida. Certainly native Floridians who live close by should add it to their list of local treasures. More information can be found at historicspanishpoint.org.

Museum Display Cases: Mound House Case Study

Museum display cases are usually a fairly straightforward project for us, but the casework for Mound House in Estero Island, FL, was the type of project that required a good bit of creative critical thinking. Our team often faces challenges; that is when the ADM Two staff really shines. We excel at problem solving and on-the-fly solutions, so we are always up for a project that requires a bit more thought.

museum display cases

Building museum display cases around the existing graphics was our challenge.

The graphics for the exhibit were already in place, so we had to create museum display cases based around the existing layout of those graphics. This made our customization a bit trickier than usual. The factor that made the job really unusual was the fact that the Mound House is a historical building, so the very old structure is not level. We had to take this element into account in our measurements and planning. The final exhibit ended up looking great, and we had another happy client.

Custom Trade Show Fabrication Case Study – South African Department of Trade

Our recent project, completing the custom trade show fabrication for the South African Department of Trade, highlights many of our strengths as a team. One of our partners, Mobius Exhibits, came to us with the RFP for the project. The ADM Two design team came up with the overall design based on the written RFP. It required at least eight individual kiosks within the space, a reception area, a conference room, and a lounge. It was a big project, but ADM Two excels in creative problem solving, and this was definitely a challenging project that would require a great deal of creativity.

Mobius Exhibits came to Tony Ricci, our Senior Account Executive and relationship-building master. Tony builds a rapport with clients and keeps in touch with them for life. People trust him, because he is not just an account executive, he is an ally; he cares about their business as if it were his own. Mobius Exhibits is one of his well-regarded industry contacts, and they knew they could trust Tony and ADM Two to create something that would wow the client.

Rendering for the custom trade show fabrication for the South African Department of Trade.

One of the most challenging factors for the South African Department of Trade custom trade show fabrication was time. This was going to be a big build, and our team knew that the typical time for completion of a project this size is around four to five weeks. On top of that, the time zone difference between South Africa and Florida is drastic and caused delays in communication and review. Despite these challenges, ADM Two completed the project in less than two weeks, including the management of the supplied graphics and content. We have the ability to prioritize in this way because we give personal attention to each and every project. If we know that a project has a tight deadline, our team collaborates to make it happen. Teamwork is essential during these tight deadlines, and because our team is like a family, we are able to communicate and work together to make the most of our time and skills. It is one of our greatest strengths.

In order to accomplish this incredibly tight deadline, we knew we had to save time on the fabrication. We decided to use some of our existing rental inventory for the reception area and conference room. The custom trade show fabrication came into play with the kiosks. We custom built them to fit the specs of the project and to create that unique feel that gives custom trade show fabrication its curb appeal. The custom pieces will remain in the ADM Two rental inventory. Blending custom fabricated pieces and rental pieces is a great way to save time and money, while still accomplishing that custom feel.

This project also posed the challenge of limited artistic direction. Because of the time difference and often little direct communication, ADM Two had to use a great deal of intuition and industry experience to complete the design. Knowing what we know about this industry, the nuances of trade show traffic, attendee engagement, and other factors, we were able to create a design that suited the client almost perfectly. In the end, the customer was very happy with the result and the show, CAMEX, held in Dallas, TX, was a success.
